Men's basketball continues to dominate the sport

Upon entering the 2005 Deaflympic Games, USA men's basketball has never lost a game. They continue their quest to enter the championship game and possibly win the gold.
USA played against Turkey in today's game. During the first half, Turkey was only ten to twenty points behind USA, who did not score much during the first half of the game.
The score was pretty close at halftime, while it is usually way ahead. USA finally got their groove going on in the second half.
With Jamel Bradley and Robert Haney at the helm, USA scored in point after point. Turkey had a hard time catching up. Other key players included Jeremias and Jonathan Valencia, Brendan Stern, Sekoe White and Brian Bippus. When the buzzer sounded, USA secured a 116-50 victory.
They will play against Italy tomorrow, continuing their quest with no mercy.
Women's volleyball game a hard battle
USA women's volleyball entered the semi-finals and their game was against Japan. USA and Japan are equally matched in talent so the game was exciting and tough. There were a lot of long, intense plays and close calls. USA player Jenny Cooper slipped on the court due to a wet spot and cut her forehead, so the game was held up for a while then things got back into the swing.
During the first round, Japan won 25-18. USA was very determined to win the second round, and indeed win they did! The points were very close up until USA's 20th point, and they slammed five more points almost in a row and secured a third challenge. Round three was still close, both teams playing their hearts out. Ultimately, Japan won at the end, the score being 3-1. USA will play against Italy on January 13 and go for the bronze medal.
Medals awarded for 400m and hammer throw

USA contenders participated in several events during today's track and field, and it proved to be a good day for the athletes. With the stands cheering its athletes on, Ryan Kelly won the silver medal in the hammer throw.
Amber Nash, who specializes in running, won the silver in 400m hurdles. Charles Blackmon got bronze in the 400m hurdles. Track and field has quite some heavy competition, so it was quite a honor for them to stand on the podium and receive their medals.

The men's water polo team entered the semi-finals and their first opponent was Germany. Things seemed optimistic during the first two periods as USA led Germany in points. The first period ended with 5-3 in USA's favor. During the second period, Thomsen Young scored in a goal but Germany fired back with two more goals, and the game became tied. Germany was a tough team with three key players and the USA players tried to keep up with defense. The score was 7-7 by halftime.
Germany scored five goals during third period. USA struggled to keep up. Only Young and Chris Stehle were able to score two points and third period closed with a 9-13 score in Germany's favor. Period four was more optimistic for USA. Their points came up right behind Germany's at 13-15, thanks to goals by Stehle, Sean Jackson and Matthew Diechsel. The final score was USA, 13, Germany 16.
If the men's water polo team wins versus Italy tomorrow, they play against Germany again and move higher up in the ranks. If they lose the game tomorrow, they will play for the bronze medal.
An exciting victory for team handball

The stands were full with USA fans cheering on the men's handball team. The game against third-place Denmark would determine if USA is in or out of the running for a medal.
Within five minutes of the game, Denmark was ahead by 5-1 but USA caught up by the end of the first half and tied the score at 12-12.
Since then, the USA team never looked back. They obtained control of the ball more than ever, firing in shot after shot, and got Denmark all riled up.
Denmark rode on USA's tails with points, always being one or two points behind. USA key players, such as Jesse Woolsey and Steve Biskupiak, racked up points and took advantage of penalty shots. With only mere minutes left, the score was 24-23.
By the end of the last minute, Sean Moore slammed two consecutive goals past the Denmark goalie, securing a sweet 27-24 victory. The game was well-fought and hard-won. The handball team will compete against Taipei on January 12.
