By the the time they went up against Russia on January 10, the USA women, in their Deaflympic debut, has gone 2-0 and became one of the hot teams to watch.
In the first half, Emily Cressy got a penalty kick because her opponent touched the ball with her hands while it was in the air. Cressy scored a goal, bringing the score to 1-0. Then the game almost immediately tied to 1-1. Erin Coppedge, a up-and-coming leader on the team, scored a 35-yard goal. The score ended with 2-1 at halftime.
In the second half, Cressy kicked the ball 40 yards and scored her second goal of the game, bringing the score to 3-1 in USA's favor. The fourth goal was brought on by Katie Romano. There was a scramble for the ball and Romano slipped the ball into the net. The final score was USA, 4, Russia, 1.
100km cycling event tests endurance
Today's prestigious 100km Road Race course marked as the toughest one in Deaflympics history.
The course climbed over 10,000 feet with two major hill climbs in ten 10km laps, equaling a ride from the sea level to mountaintop.

Trevor Kosa battles against heat and placed 6th in 100 km cycling.

Two French riders, first-time Deaflympican David Cloux and the defending Road Race Gold medallist Bernard Braugola, broke away from the main pack to a lead of over four and half minutes with the final lap to go.
Most of the anticipation was on the bronze finish, one of the contenders being Trevor Kosa. However, Italian Luigi Cucco made a smart attack on the second hill climb rendering any chance of Kosa sprinting for third place.
Cloux and veteran Braugola held their hands together for the finish. Braugola made a bold, respectful move by allowing Clouxm to cross ahead for his first Gold. Roughly six minutes later, Cucco outsprinted the chase pack for the bronze medal. Kosa came in sixth.
Tennis player Bulkley defeated but undeterred
Audrey Bulkley lost a hard-fought tennis quarterfinal battle to Klarika Heimann-Tschun, number two seed from Switzerland. The battle lasted 2 hours and 35 minutes and the final score was 6-3, 1-6 and 6-1, unfortunately in the Swiss' favor.
After winning the match point, Heimann-Tschun dropped to the ground, exhausted but Bulkley apparently still had a lot left in her for another match! Coach Roy Trafalski said the third set was closer than the score indicated and the momentum could have turned on a number of key points.
Heimann-Tschun has never lost a match to any deaf female tennis player, other than the 4-time Deaflympics Gold Medallist, Barbara Oddone of Italy, since 1988. Trafalaski is extremely proud of Bulkley for her efforts and sportsmanship in tennis.

All the women are "one to watch" and they are the defending gold medalists from Rome, beating Sweden by two points in the championship game.
Some key players include Ida Dotson, Ronda Johnson and Buffy Hummel. Their game today was against Japan, a highly predicted win for USA. The final score was 98-41.
The women's team has never lost a game since the Deaflympics began and they are anticipated to go for the gold again.
Surfacing with more medals
The women's 4x100m medley relay consisted of Carly Robinson, Stephanie Danner, Kristin Ates and Caitlin Morgan. They were behind with the time of 4:58.13 during the prelims so the ball was in the air for the finals.

13-year-old Kristin Ates swims the first leg of 4x100m medley relay. The USA team received Silver.

What a surprise that the USA team won second place, the silver medal, and broke the USA record for a time of 4:44.65! Russia won the gold. It is Danner's fourth medal of the Deaflympics, after winning three in the past two days.
